2023 Vision

With the New Year (and my birthday on the 30th!) coming up, it’s usually a pretty reflective time of the year for me. This year was personally so great for me; went to Miami with my best friends in the whole world, FINALLY made my dream wedding come true, started practicing Buddhism, went to Oaxaca for my honeymoon, picked up surfing again, and saw my other husband Benito in concert at the #WorldsHottestTour ! There were many other moments to be grateful for but these were definitely the highlights.

With all this being said, it makes me want to set even bigger goals for myself in 2023. Goal setting can be daunting, but one of the activities I started trying in the last year was making vision boards for my personal goals. I don’t know why but before I started trying them I thought they were a little corny, but once I started making digital boards for work purposes, I thought why not make one for my personal life?

An article in Psychology Today says, “Mental imagery impacts many cognitive processes in the brain: motor control, attention, perception, planning, and memory. So the brain is getting trained for actual performance during visualization. It’s been found that mental practices can enhance motivation, increase confidence and self-efficacy, improve motor performance, prime your brain for success, and increase states of flow—all relevant to achieving your best life!”

My 2023 vision board. Lots of surfing, strengthening my Buddhist practice, a new home, possibly expanding my family, and enjoying beach sunsets. She’s ready for her ~coastal baddie era~

If you’ve never made a vision board, here is how I would recommend doing it:

  1. Reflect on your last year. What did you accomplish? What did you not get the opportunity to do? What would you do differently? What are your short term and long term goals? Make a list of all the things you want to accomplish in the next year or so.

  2. Get creative! I personally like to make my vision boards on Pinterest, because it’s so easy to search for inspiration and get caught up in your own imagination. BUT! You could also use magazine clippings, draw things, mixed media, or all of the above! Include any image that is aspirational or evokes any positive emotions in you. You can also include any type of goal you want whether its career, financial, relationships, spiritual, health goals or all of the above, include whatever feels best for you.

  3. Don’t be embarrassed! This vision board is for YOU and YOUR goals, it should be a fun activity where you can be creative and make your dreams come true! You don’t have to show anyone if you don’t want to.

  4. Look at it as often as possible! Make sure you keep it somewhere you can look at it every day or on a consistent basis that works for you. Maybe have it wherever you enjoy your morning coffee, or next to your bed so you can look at it at night before you go to sleep.

  5. Feel free to make updates! Maybe you were able to achieve one of your goals or had a change, you can always make adjustments to your board or make a new one altogether. I love using Pinterest for this very reason! It’s so easy to update images if my goals have shifted and make as many inspiration boards as possible!

I hope my board inspires you to make your own, and hope you have a fulfilling 2023!
